Earlier in May we had the pleasure of having a guest teacher visit the classes. Alex Carlton of ABSolute Pilates studio in Billngshurst and a Power Pilates trained teacher, which is one of the leaders in classical pilates training.
He came and watched the basic class and the taught the intermediate class, which I gladly joined in and thoroughly enjoyed.! This was a great challenging class and got everyone working hard for the repertoire!
He offered some great cue's and insight to the flow and dynamics of the classes and was very pleased with the progress of everyone in both of the classes, so well done everyone!!
I look forward to training with Alex this weekend in London, on a very exciting two day workshop with a master trainer form New York.
Keep training!

Progression!
This Wednesay was the last class of this first Brighton & Hove Classical Pilates course. Already you can see clients have progressed and improved in control, coordination, stamina and of course strengthening of the powerhouse!
Keep the consistency and practice at home (if you can), even 10mins a day then build to 20, 30 etc. This will help you to build your threshold for the exercises and allow you to progress more in the weekly classes. The beauty of the matwork system is you do not need equipment, just your mat and yourself and your own self discipline!

Crossfit workshop
Great work from everyone who attended the Brighton & Hove Classical pilates workshop @ Crossfit Hove. It was good to see how Classical Pilates can help athletes connect and strengthen those deep abdominals, which will help a great deal in any lifting(power or Olympic lifting), gymnastic movements etc.
We spoke about how Pilates can help with maintaining correct health for the spine, stretching and lengthening, which is important for any lifting practitioner.
If you are interested about crossfit please check out the website www.crossfithove.blogspot.com and have a chat with Miles who is the Coach and owner of the affiliate.
Any crossfitters that attended the workshop are welcome to join the classes on a Wednesday night

Spine Articulation
There are many expressions or verbal cues used to convey the mobility of the spine. Whenever you hear "articulate the spine" or " roll the spine vertibra by vertibra", your goal is to work through each part of the spine, mobilising and seperating each vertibra.
As you roll and un-roll the spine, you may feel sections that resist mobilty. Now these spots are the areas that you need to linger and breath into, to increase the opening of the area. Whether you are rolling up or rolling down, you must concentrate on actively creating a "C" shape of the spine to increase mobility and strength.

Great Start!!!
Well done to everyone who started the first Brighton & Hove Classical Pilates course. It was great to work on the fundamentals for the basic class, to really find the lower abs connection especially on exercises like the 'roll back' which is such so important in the beginning and the flow of the class.
For those who went straight in the Intermediate, again reiterating those underling principles which are so important, but developing the pace and transitions from one movement to the other Cool!
The more we can work on the basics for both levels the more you will notice a change in the class flow and in your bodies and a growing number of exercises to your repertoire.
The more we work on these movements the more you will understand the six principles, which I will discuss in a later post.

Great work! Keep working!!
